For those of you who might have missed the news, today marked 50 years since the launch of
Explorer I, the frist US satellite. All of the interesting things about the satellite can generally be found in the wikipedia article, but there are some things that the article doesn't relate. Perhaps most notably, there are less than 20 people still alive who participated in the Explorer I project. Most of these people are in their 70s or 80s and I doubt if more than a handfull will still be around for the 60th anniversary.
Unfortunately, I am unsure if our generation will see a
